An undermanned Jr. Kings’ team went into the Shark Pit on Monday night in Wheatley and got eaten by the Sharks by a score of 6-1.  Led by Ken Blain’s five-point night, Wheatley outhustled and outplayed Dresden for sixty minutes.

Sharks’ captain, John Grant, opened the scoring on a power play at 10:11 of the first period when his pass was deflected by a Kings’ defenseman behind goaltender, Tyler Hendricks.  The Jr. Kings tied the game on a goal by Kyle Vink.  Steve Henry fired a hard shot over the net from the blueline and Vink beat everyone to the rebound, including John Dow who was in the nets for Wheatley.  Joe Deboer drew an assist.

The Sharks struck twice in the second period.  First it was Grant at 3:13, then Blain scored on a power play at 6:23.  The Jr. Kings were only trailing by two, going into the third.

The third period was all Wheatley, as the Jr. Kings found themselves in the penalty box seven times.  This gave the Sharks’ potent power play a chance to run up the score, and it would have happened if not for the solid goaltending of Hendricks, turning aside twelve shots. Wheatley did manage to score three more times, twice with the man-advantage.  Blain, John Montague, and Jordan Carnevale all tallied in the third period to make the final score, 6-1.  The Shark Attack scored four times on 11 power play opportunities, while the Jr. Kings were scoreless in seven chances.  Hendricks made 32 saves, while Dow stopped 24.  The Tunstall Three Stars were ……. Kyle Vink, Tyler Hendricks, and Tim Doermer.  The Kings return to action Friday night, Oct. 12th, at home against the Essex 73s.  The puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
