Wheatley  5    Dresden  1        November 16, 2007

The return of veteran defenseman Kevin Verburg wasn’t enough as Wheatley Sharks handed the Dresden Jr. Kings their third straight defeat on Friday night.  The Sharks spotted the Jr. Kings a 1-0 lead, and then scored five unanswered goals for a 5-1 win.

Jason Watson opened the scoring in the first period with his fifth goal of season at 5:37.  He stickhandled down the left side driving to the net through traffic and found a way to slide the puck past Sharks’ goaltender, John Dow.  Aaron Gibbings and Dustin Cope drew assists.  The Sharks tied the score when Pat Louzon converted a behind the net pass at 11:27.  Then with only seventeen seconds left on the clock in the period, the always-dangerous John Grant, gave the Sharks a 2-1 lead with the only power play goal of the game.

All the scoring in the second period belonged to the Sharks.  Andy Stevenson scored at 2:18 and 5:25 of the period.  Then Pat Louzon scored his second goal of the game with six minutes left in the period, resulting in an early exit for Cam Graham, who started in the nets for the Jr. Kings.  He was replaced by Kyle Straatman, who finished the game by stopping all 11 shots he faced, as the third period was scoreless.

The Sharks outshot the Jr. Kings 38-30 and had seven power plays opportunities to three for Dresden.  The Tunstall Three Stars were ……… Jake Welch, Kevin Verburg and Jim Rouse.

The Jr. Kings travel to Mooretown tonight and badly need a win in their battle for a playoff spot in the North Division.  Only two points separate Mooretown, Blenheim, Alvinston & Dresden in the standings.  The Jr. Kings then return home on Friday, November 23rd, to play the Wallaceburg Lakers at 7:30 p.m.
