     Dresden  4   Wallaceburg  8  January 23, 2008

The Dresden Jr. Kings are quickly running out of time and chances to make the playoffs this season after their second straight loss in a week to the Wallaceburg Lakers on Wednesday night.  After losing 5-3 in Dresden Friday, the Kings played a very spirited game in Wallaceburg on Wednesday, only to drop a discouraging 8-4 game.  The Jr. Kings sit four points back of the Blenheim Blades for the final playoff spot, and have four games remaining to the Blades’ five.

As has been the case lately, Dresden fell behind early.  By the seventeen-minute mark of the first period, the Lakers built up a 4-0 lead on two goals each by Justin Durston and Anthony Walker. Dan Hyatt put the Jr. Kings on the scoreboard at 19:01 of the period, with assists going to Jake Welch and Jeremy Park.  Durston then finished his first period hat trick at 19:30 to give the Lakers a 5-1 lead going into the intermission.  The Kings were down by four, but outshot the Lakers 17-12 in the opening period.

Dresden fell behind 6-1 at 6:36 of the second period on a Ryan Lounsbury goal.  The Jr. Kings tried to make a game of it by striking twice late in the period on goals by Joe Deboer and Jeremy Park.

Tyson Issac scored early in the third to put the Lakers ahead 7-3.  Then Toby Brune scored a short-handed goal to seal the victory for Wallaceburg, before Brent Shaw rounded out the scoring with his first goal as a Jr. King, after joining the team a few weeks ago.  Welch and Kyle Vink drew the assists.

The Jr. Kings fired 42 shots at Ryan George in the Wallaceburg nets, while Kyle Straatman and Cameron Graham combined to face 28 shots in the Dresden net.  The Tunstall Three Stars were ……… Kyle Vink, Joe Deboer, and Jeremy Park.  The Jr. Kings are at home on Friday night (Jan. 25) against the Belle River Canadiens before traveling to Blenheim on Sunday to face the Blades in a must win situation.  Game time Sunday is at 7:15 p.m.
