Dresden 2 September 21,
2007
The Jr. Kings are still looking for their first win of the
season after the Mooretown Flags defeated them 5-2 Friday night in
Dresden. Some penalty
trouble, some hot goaltending, and next thing the Jr. Kings knew,
their record stands at 0-3 in the young season.
Dresden came out flying in the first period and dominated
the play until Mooretown capitalized on a power play goal, by Cody
Chute, at the 10:11 on the period.
Then, forty-two seconds later, Tyler Fraser gave the Flags
a two-goal lead after the Jr. Kings failed to clear the puck out
of their own end. Joel
Price was awarded a penalty shot after being hauled down on a
breakaway at 14:27 of the period.
He made no mistake on his attempt, beating Mooretown’s
goaltender, Jeff Steadman, with a low shot on the stick side.
Mike Burns scored two unanswered goals for Mooretown in the
middle frame, as the Jr. Kings played short-handed the majority of
the period. They were assessed seven minor penalties, killing all but one
off, thanks to the strong goaltending by Tyler Hendricks.
The third period was all Dresden as they outshot the Flags
20-3. Rookie
defenseman, Aaron Gibbings, blasted a shot past Steadman from 10
feet inside the blueline to cut the Flags lead in half.
Dustin Cope drew the lone assist.
The Jr. Kings continued to pepper the Mooretown net with
shots, but couldn’t put another one past Steadman.
Mike Burns sealed the victory, scoring his third goal of
the game into an empty net with 11 seconds remaining.
The Jr. Kings outshot the Flags 38-33.
The game was all whistles and special teams, as 35 minor
penalties and four fighting majors were called in the game.
The Tunstall Three Stars were ………. Alex McDonald,
Aaron Gibbings, and Kyle Vink.
Dresden now plays a home and home series against the
Blenheim Blades starting on Sunday night, in Blenheim, at 7:15.
They then host the Blades next Friday, Sept. 28 in Dresden.
The Jr. Kings are working the BBQs on Thursday, Sept. 27th
for the Heart & Stroke Fundraising Event, which is
being held at the Dresden Racetrack from 5-8 pm.
The Heart & Stroke Association and the Jr. Kings hope
you will come out and support this very worthy cause. |
