Dresden 3 Kingsville 3 December 22,
2007
Behind the solid goaltending of Kyle Straatman,
the Dresden Jr. Kings extended their unbeaten streak to four
games Saturday night, with a 3-3 tie in Kingsville. In the past
eight days, the Jr. Kings have taken seven of a possible eight
points in four games to tie the Blenheim Blades for the last
playoff spot in the North.
Dresden played a very disciplined defensive first
period and were rewarded with two late goals, giving them a 2-0
lead after twenty minutes. While forechecking deep in the
Comets end, Dan Hyatt forced a turnover and Jake Welch
capitalized on it with a hard wrist shot at 17:05. Then, with
the period winding down, Dan Hyatt scored an unassisted goal at
19:30 to send the Jr. Kings to the dressing room up by a couple.
The fans barely had time to return to their seats
after the intermission when the Comets cut the lead in half on a
goal by Mike Baker at 00:15 of the second period. The score
remained 2-1 until the third period.
At 3:08 of the third, Jonathan Shanahan evened the
score for Kingsville. Then Brad Quinlan gave the Comets their
first lead of the game, scoring at 12:14, with two Jr. Kings in
the penalty box. Dresden refused to quit. With their own power
play opportunity, Kyle Vink scored on a second effort to force
overtime with five minutes to play. Welch and Patrick Rice drew
the assists. The overtime settled nothing, as Dresden headed
home with a 3-3 tie. The Tunstall Three Stars were ……… Dan
Hyatt, Jake Welch, and Kyle Straatman.
The players and the coaches now break for Christmas on
a very positive note. They can relax, eat some turkey, and
enjoy their modest unbeaten streak before resuming play at home
next Friday night (Dec. 28) against the Alvinston Flyers. Then
they travel to Mooretown for a Saturday night game against the
Flags.
The Jr. Kings will hold their annual Fish Fry
prior to the game Friday night. There is still tickets
available at the door, and the cost is $14 for all you can eat.
The Dresden Jr. Kings would like to wish everyone a Happy
Holiday and hope you come out and support the Kings to what
promises to be a great second half of the season. |
