Dresden  1       Essex  7        January 15, 2008

The Dresden Jr. Kings went into Essex on Tuesday night hoping to gain a point against the reigning champs, who have yet to lose on home ice this season.  As hard as they fought, the Jr. Kings couldn’t match the 73s and fell by a score of 7-1.

Essex opened the scoring at 5:50 of the first period when AJ Sweet scored on a rebound.  Then a minute later, Dan Croft converted a goal mouth pass.  RJ Hotts upped the lead to three on a power play marker.  Essex outshot Dresden 14-4 in the first, keeping Kyle Straatman busy in the Jr. Kings’ net.

Dresden came out in the second period trying to make a game of it as Joe Deboer scored his sixth goal of the season on a blast from the right side at 2:24.  Jeremy Park and Greg Dilliott picked up assists.  Essex added two more goals in the period.  The first on a power play by Tanner Gallant, then Mike Roach was left standing alone in front of Straatman, and made no mistake.

Essex scored two more goals in a chippy third period.  Sean Ducharme muscled his way off the face-off to the left of Straatman and stuffed one under the crossbar.  Anthony Querin rounded out the scoring for Essex at 8:35 on a scramble in front of Straatman.

The Jr. Kings played hard, but the 73s proved to be too much as the Kings remained two points behind the Blenheim Blades for the final playoff spot in the North Division.  The Tunstall Three Stars were …… Joe Deboer, Tim Doermer, and Jim Rouse.  Dresden’s next game will be Friday night at 7:30 p.m. against the Wallaceburg Lakers.
