Essex 3 Dresden 1 December 7, 2007
Rookie goaltender Kyle Straatman did all he could Friday night
against the Essex 73s, but it wasn’t enough, as the Jr. Kings
lost by a 3-1 count. Dresden, in a complete turn around from
their 6-0 drubbing in Essex two weeks ago, gave the 73s all they
could handle this time around.
Mike Roach opened the scoring at 7:48 with a power
play goal. The Jr. Kings just killed off the first penalty of
a five on three, when Roach grabbed a loose puck and fired it
home. Just over a minute later, Dustin Cope stole the puck at
center ice and broke down the left side, beating goalie Ryan
Barnett to even the score at one. Sean Ducharme regained the
lead for Essex with a goal at 16:05 of the period.
The score remained 2-1 until late in the third
period. With four minutes left to play, Wendel Mertz was called
for slashing, which the crowd openly disagreed with, thus giving
the 73s their eighth power play opportunity. Roach added the
insurance marker while up a man, at 17:33.
Kyle Straatman, stopped 44 shots in the nets for
Dresden, most coming when the Kings were short-handed. Twice he
closed the door when Essex had a five on three. The Jr. Kings
were 0-3 on the power play. The Tunstall Three Stars were ………
Kyle Straatman, Kyle Vink, and Nick Mailloux. Dresden travels
to Wallaceburg on Wednesday, Dec. 12th and then
returns home for a 7:30 game against the Mooretown Flags on
Friday. |
