      Dresden  5   Blenheim  3       September 28, 2007

For the second time in less than a week, the Dresden Jr. Kings defeated the Blenheim Blades behind the solid goaltending of Cam Graham and some excellent penalty killing in front of him.

The Kings came out hustling in the first period and looked like they were going to run away with the game early, but instead found themselves playing short-handed much of the first twenty minutes, three times two men short. That didn’t stop them, as they scored three quick goals midway through the period.  First it was Joe Deboer scoring at 7:58 from Aaron Gibbings, next it was Jason DeHoey scoring his first Junior C goal, unassisted, at 8:19 to make it 2-0.  Alex McDonald upped the lead to three on a two-man advantage at 9:58.  Helpers went to Steve Henry and Kyle Vink.  Joel Stepniak finally beat Graham after he had shutout the Blades for over 75 minutes of hockey, which included last Sunday night.  The line of Henry-McDonald-Vink restored the three-goal lead before the period ended on Henry’s second goal of the season.

Blenheim scored two unanswered goals in the second period to make it a 4-3 game going into the third.  The goals were scored by Stepniak, his second of the night, and Ron Green, who fired a shot through a maze of players past a screened Graham.

The Kings played a strong defensive third period, but the game wasn’t decided until Greg Dilliott added the insurance goal on an empty netter.  With a minute left in a penalty to Dresden’s Jason Watson, the Blades called a time out and pulled goaltender Mike Touma to put the extra attacker on with the face-off deep in the Jr. Kings’ zone.  Kyle Vink won the draw, pulling the puck back to Dilliott, who shot it the length of the ice into the open net with 1:27 left to play.

The Jr. Kings have one of the best penalty killing units in the league, and showed it Friday night, only allowing one power play goal in 12 opportunities.  The Tunstall Three Stars were ……… Cam Graham, Aaron Gibbings, and Jason DeHoey.  The Kings travel to Mooretown Saturday night and then host the Belle River Canadiens next Friday night, Oct. 5th.  Both games start at 7:30.
