The Jr. Kings finally notched their first
win of the season Sunday night in Blenheim, defeating the Blades
3-0, behind the solid goaltending of Cam Graham.
After being denied wins in the first three games of the
season, the Kings’ hustle finally paid off.
They had few turnovers in their own end and didn’t allow
the Blades many quality scoring opportunities.
Steve Henry opened the scoring for
Dresden at 5:16 of the first period.
After intercepting a clearing pass, Kings’ veteran Kyle
Vink carried the puck around the Blades net and found Henry parked
to the side of it. Henry
made no mistake shoving the puck behind Blenheim goalie, James
Tetreault. The period
ended with the Kings leading 1-0.
The Kings came out skating in the
second period, but couldn’t add to their lead because of the
goaltending of Tetreault. They
fired sixteen shots his way, only to come away empty as the score
remained 1-0 after two periods.
Five minutes into the third, the
Kings won a face-off deep in the Blenheim end.
With Dan Hyatt and Joe Deboer working together in the zone,
they found Jeremy Park in the slot, who quickly gave the Kings a
two-goal lead with his first goal of the season.
The Kings stood their ground as the game became chippy, and
then Dustin Cope put the game out of reach on an empty net goal,
with Kyle Vink and Alex McDonald earning assists.
The Kings played well, as they
outshot the Blades 36-23. Neither team could score on the power
play, with Blenheim having eight chances and Dresden seven.
The Tunstall Three Stars were …… Cam Graham, Alex
McDonald, and Greg Dilliott.
These two teams wrap up their home
and home series Friday night, Sept. 28, at 7:30 PM, in Dresden.
The Jr. Kings hope to see everyone out to the Dresden
Racetrack on Thursday night between 5-8 PM to support the Heart
& Stroke Fundraising Event. The Jr. Kings will be running the BBQs at this event. |
