Blenheim  6     Dresden  2    January 27, 2008

The Dresden Jr. Kings playoff hopes came to a disappointing end Sunday night in Blenheim after a 6-2 loss to the Blades.  The loss has officially eliminated the Jr. Kings from the post season play.  Special teams made the difference Sunday night, as the Blades scored three power play goals and one short-handed.

Ex-King, Aaron Wilkins, staked Blenheim to a two-goal lead after the first twenty minutes of play.  His first goal was a slapshot from the playoff circle at 16:21 while a man up, then at 18:46 he broke in alone while on the penalty kill to beat Cameron Graham with a deke.

After a scoreless second period, the Blades struck quickly in the third, scoring two more power play goals within ten seconds of each other.  First it was Jonathan Croley scoring at 5:28 with two Jr. Kings in the box, then Colin Brown scored at 5:38 to put the Blades up 4-0.  Brendan Carey added to the Kings woes by scoring at 15:13.  All season the Jr. Kings never gave up, and Sunday night was no different.  Down by five, the Kings keep pressure on Mike Touma in the Blades’ net, fighting to the end. Jake Welch put Dresden on the scoreboard at 15:42, then Willy Bishop scored at 16:26 to make a game of it.   It wasn’t over until Neven Wiebenga sealed the victory with a late goal, giving the Blades the 6-2 win.  Behind by a couple goals going into the third period, with their backs against the wall, the Jr. Kings couldn’t muster much of an attack, as they fought off six minor penalties, without going on the power play once.  Overall, the Blades were 3-12 with the man-advantage, and the Jr. Kings were 0-5.  The Blades outshot Dresden, 29-25.  The Tunstall Three Stars were ……… Jason Watson, Jake Welch, and Joe Deboer.

Dresden has two game remaining.  Friday night they travel to Belle River, and then host the Kingsville Comets the following Friday (Feb. 8) at 7:30 p.m.
